Viptela, SevOne Partner for Easier SD-WAN Management
Viptela wants to make it easier for businesses to monitor their SD-WAN environments.
The company is integrating SevOne's Digital Infrastructure Management Platform with Viptela's software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) offering, which will enable data center and network operators to get more visibility into the health of their networks. They will be able to use the SevOne dashboard to view the health status information collected from Viptela's network, which will help customers reduce the cost and complexity of managing their infrastructures, according to officials with both companies.
"The combination of Viptela and SevOne enables both mid and large enterprises to monitor their SD-WAN infrastructure and services within the same application they use to oversee the rest of their enterprise network," Ramesh Prabagaran, vice president of product management and partnerships for Viptela, said in a statement.
The partnership comes as more businesses are looking at SD-WANs to help drive down the costs and improve the agility of their branch office networks. Traditional WANs are fairly static and rigid, but they worked well enough when traffic was essentially running directly between the branch offices and central data center. However, with the rise of the cloud, the Internet of things, greater workforce mobility and other trends, businesses are looking for more flexible and affordable options.
A recent survey by analysts at IHS Infonetics found that the interest in SD-WAN is growing. Sixty-five percent of campus LAN respondents have started or expect to start lab trials by the end of 2016, and 77 percent say they should have it in live production by 2018.
"The drivers for enterprises to deploy software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) are clear: agility and security with reduced costs," Cliff Grossner, senior research director for data center, cloud and software-defined networking (SDN), said in a statement. "Automating WAN operations, improving application performance, and branch office security are all necessary for agility."
Viptela's Secure Extensible Network (SEN) platform enables enterprises to embrace hybrid networks that use a mix of private and public IP connections, including MPLS, 4G LTE, wireless broadband and wireless Ethernet to improve application performance and network agility. Viptela's vManage software offers configuration management and monitoring so the problems within the WAN can be found and fixed.
The partnership with SevOne will enable customers to view the health of their WANs via the SevOne dashboard by integrating intelligence from vManage, officials said.
