Apple Computer Inc. is preparing another free update to Mac OS X 10.2, sources said. The company this week provided developers with the first pre-release seed of Mac OS X 10.2.6, labeled build 6L51. According to the seeds release notes. 10.2.6 will improve graphics and OpenGL, as well as OS Xs Address Book application. Additionally, the update will provide greater compatibility with PC cards and USB hubs. Apple also provided a brief list of developer-submitted issues that had been resolved with this seed, improving support for third-party software and peripherals.
This update comes on the heels of Mac OS X 10.2.5, which tied in enhancements to a number of components of the "Jaguar" OS. Late last year, Apple also released Version 10.2.2, which included a new journaled file system.
As Apple continues to update Mac OS X 10.2, its already announced plans to unveil Mac OS X 10.3, a k a "Panther," in June. Panther, reportedly due to ship in September, will pack an arsenal of innovative new features aimed at putting users at the center of a pervasive computing experience that allows them to move seamlessly among Macs and other devices. Apple in March announced that it was moving back the 2003 edition of its Worldwide Developers Conference from May to June so the show would coincide with delivery of a preview release of Panther. Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple was not immediately available for comment. Latest Apple News:
