Adobe Names New CTO

Kevin Lynch, the company's former vice president and chief software architect, will step into the position.

Adobe Systems is promoting Kevin Lynch to chief technology officer.

Most recently, Lynch served as senior vice president and chief software architect for the design software giant. In his new role, announced Feb. 5, Lynch will oversee Adobe’s “experience design” and core technology across business units, company officials said.

Lynch came to Adobe in 2005 after the company bought Macromedia. In addition to his role in leading Adobe's Platform Business Unit, Lynch also handled the company's developer relations initiative, managing the integration of customers and partners in the development process through Adobe Labs and customer advisory councils, company officials said.

“Adobe has transformed itself through several technology waves, from desktop publishing, to multimedia and to the Web,” President and CEO Shantanu Narayen said in a statement. “Kevin’s insights and passion for rich Internet applications, and what they signify for the future of software across operating systems and devices, will help enable the next generation of innovation for our customers.”

During his tenure at Macromedia, Lynch oversaw the development of Macromedia Dreamweaver, a leading Web development product, and led the transformation of the Flash Player from primarily an animation tool to a rich Internet application and dynamic media runtime, Adobe officials said.
