Traditionally, if companies want to deploy applications over the Web, they can use standard Web development tools that are ubiquitous and scalable but also grade low in performance and reliability, or they can use expensive customized code that is productive but proprietary and hard to maneuver.

San Francisco-based Kenamea Inc. has launched software designed to incorporate the best of both worlds. The Kenamea Application Network uses traditional application messaging techniques to communicate between devices on the Internet, company officials said, creating a secure connection between back-end business applications and front-end Internet-enabled applications.

The network, now available as a service over the Internet and running on the Kenamea Message Switch servers, adds a software layer on top of the IP or HTTP application structure. The network also integrates with standard application servers, databases and Web servers. The Application Network is available now, with pricing beginning at $5,000. It will be available as packaged software in the fall.
