Wavelink Puts RFID Tools into Developers Hands

Mobile infrastructure management software developer Wavelink Corp. is adding RFID development tools to its middleware platform. The company announced today that its Wavelink Studio and Wavelink Emulation products will be enabled with radio-frequency identification in a way that allows developers to integrate RFID data into existing data collection and supply chain applications and into host applications. Geared toward easing the transition to RFID-based supply chain functions, both base products are already in use in the manufacturing, retail and logistics verticals. Wavelink Studio is an application development platform for creating and upgrading wireless supply chain-based applications. Emulation is software for accessing and managing connections to host system applications. With the RFID capabilities in the companys namesake Studio product, application developers can enable existing barcode data-collection applications with RFID readers. At the same time, developers are able to integrate their applications with other workflow and data-collection capabilities—barcode scanning, point-of-sale credit card reading and wireless printing. With the RFID capabilities in Emulation, users are able to extend applications on mainframe systems to interact with RFID tags, officials said. Officials at Wavelink, based in Kirkland, Wash., said the RFID-enabled Studio and Emulation packages will be available in the fourth quarter.
