Cloud Computing: Google TV Tour Highlights Sony TVs, Logitech Revue Box, Apps
Google Oct. 4 trotted out Google TV, its new TV-Web surfing service, by unveiling partnerships with Turner Broadcasting, NBC Universal, HBO, Netflix, Amazon and several smaller applications partners, such as Twitter, Blip.tv and Vevo. The Android 2.1-powered Google TV lets users watch, manage and record television programming and navigate Web applications on large-screen TVs through Google Chrome. Logitech is unveiling its Google TV-ready Revue set-top box Oct. 6, with Sony introducing Google TV-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players Oct. 12. Pricing will no doubt be announced at those events. Google TV will compete with Apple TV and services from Roku, Boxee and other smaller providers. To prepare for the launch, Google also revamped its Google TV Website to make it more visually appealing and to show off what the service can do. In this slide show, eWEEK walks readers through Google TV.
