Fishermen in southeastern Italy are turning to the cloud to assess the business climate and market for their fish in real time. This is helping them to gethigher prices for their catch and reducing the amount of fish that goes unsold. The fishermen are benefiting from an effort that seeks to leverage cloud-based solutions to help companies and universities in southern Italy. From their boats, they enter the type of fish they have just caught and instantaneously start a virtual auction with wholesalers on the docks. The university is involved in several projects that demonstrate how the process can be applied in other application areas. For instance, in addition to working with the fishermen, another project involves local wineries.
