When Yahoo launched Search Direct March 23, the media responded with the obvious comparisons to Google Instant, the search giant's own predictive search technology. Like Instant, which Google launched last September, Search Direct brings users search results as they type characters and before they complete a query, hit the search button or go to a search results page. Direct Search covers top trending searches, movies, TV, sports teams and players, weather, local, travel, stocks and shopping categories on Yahoo.com. To see how Search Direct measures up to Google Instant, eWEEK conducted a handful of searches from the categories Yahoo supports on both Search Direct and Google Instant to see how they compare with each other. We'll comment on which features we find more useful and relevant. But there is some subjectivity here, so we'll let you judge which results are most valuable to you. Also, see Search Engine Land's initial head-to-head comparison of the two instant-search technologies.
