  • HP Announces New Products and Services for Data Protection and Archiving

Hewlett-Packard Co. of Palo Alto, Calif., has announced the introduction of new data protection and archiving products and services. New data protection solutions are based on the new NAS (network attached storage) based HP ProLiant DL 100 G2 and ProLiant DL 380 G4 Data Protection Storage Servers, which allow IT administrators to back up data at fixed intervals.

The storage appliances, which use Microsoft Data Protection Manager and Windows Storage Server 2003, provide near continuous data protection for Windows file servers and end-user file recovery.

A second data protection solution is powered by the new HP StorageWorks 6840 Virtual Library System (VLS), which speeds up backup and recovery in SAN environments by emulating tape drives and libraries. Yet another new data protection server, the HP Electronic Vaulting Service, offers automated remote backup.

The HP StorageWorks Reference Information Manager (RIM) for Database Archiving is a second solution that automates data retention policies and prevents data from being altered.
