Among the updates, NeoScale and Luminex work together while StorageTek add to its Flexline and enhances its remote managed storage solution.
  • NeoScale, Luminex Co-Develop Direct-to-Tape Solution for Mainframe Tape Encryption
NeoScale Systems Inc. of Milpitas, Calif., and Luminex Software Inc. of Riverside, Calif., have joined forces to develop mainframe tape-encryption solution that allows mainframe users to encrypt data directly to tape.
The solution, which combines NeoScales CryptoStor tape-security appliance and Luminexs Virtual BLUE 3490 mainframe tape gateway, compresses, encrypts and digitally authenticates data stored on tape drives on mainframe systems. Get more information here.
  • StorageTek Adds to FlexLine V-Series
StorageTek of Louisville, Colo., has bolstered support for mainframe environments with its new FlexLine V-Series Shared Virtual Array (SVA) V2X4f. Intended for use in native FICON (Fibre Connectivity) in Z/OS (MVS) and z/VM environments, the V2Xf succeeds StorageTeks V2Xf. The new array allows users to concurrently test and develop with multiple SnapShot data copies and restores; offers nondisruptive and consistent DB2 image copy via SnapShot and Virtual Concurrent Copy; and provides near-instant PiT (Point-in-Time) SnapShot, fast backup and PPRC global mirroring. • Fujitsu Introduces 2.5" SATA for Mobile Environments Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., has introduced a 160GB 2.5" SATA (Serial ATA) hard drive. The MHV2160BT, aimed at users who engage in high-end audio/video computing, includes a hardware accelerator that maximizes NCQ (Native Command Queuing) performance, allowing it to queue and reorder up to 32 instructions simultaneously. The hard drive also offers high-shock tolerance and spins at 4200 RPM. The new mobile SATA hard drive will be available through OEMs and distributors by the end of 2005. Get more information here.
  • Infortrend MPIO Drivers Available for EonStor RAID Infortrend of Santa Clara, Calif., has developed its own set of drivers to allow users to more easily run its MPIO solution on several of its RAID storage subsystems. The companys MPIO driver programs are now available for its EonStor RAID storage subsystems. Using the MPIO driver program allows the entire I/O path to take advantage of redundancy, resulting in better load balancing and fault tolerance, according to Alan Johnson, Infortrends director of product application engineering. • StorageTek Enhances Remote Managed Storage Service Offers for Health care Industry StorageTek has upgraded its Remote Managed Storage service offerings to help health care organizations better manage PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and other patient information. The upgraded service offering now allows users to conduct predictive troubleshooting of both hardware and software failures and storage-capacity issues before they occur and supports StorageTeks Application Storage Manager automated data movement software.
