    Pacific Digital Offers RAID for SOHO Networks

    Pacific Digital Corp. this week announced an enterprise-class RAID host adapter card for small computer networks. The RAIDStaQ RS4-100E is an ADMA/Ultra ATA PCI host adapter card supporting RAID levels 0, 1 and 0+1. The device offloads host interrupt processing, improves bus utilization and greatly enhances data transfer rates when used with ATA command-queuing hard drives.

    LSI Logic Unwraps New SCSI Kits for Solution Providers

    LSI Logic Corp. is continuing its renewed emphasis on the channel with new SCSI kits for solution providers. The four new kits, which include either an Ultra320 SCSI controller or an Ultra320 SCSI RAID adapter combined with a Tripp Lite five-drive cable, mark the first time the company is using new packaging consistent with the branding initiative it started earlier this year, said Kerry Reid, senior director of worldwide channel sales. "We are tying different companies together with packaging consistent across our product offering," he said.

    Fuji Unveils 0.8-inch Hard Disk

    Japans Fuji Electric this month revealed the latest development in the ongoing shrinkage of hard disks: the 2-cm (0.8-inch) platter. The current standard in micro-sized disks is the 2.5-cm (1-inch) platter. The magnetic medium Fuji is using provides a data density of 80 gigabits per square inch, allowing the disk to offer an unformatted capacity of 6GB. Drives based on the platter are already in development, Fuji said, though commercial products are still some way off.

    DVD Drive Maker CenDyne Comes to Stop

    The Superior Court of California this month ordered DVD-drive maker CenDyne Inc. to shut down. The company was placed into receivership, according to its voice mail message. Receivership is a temporary measure used by the court to remove officers of a company in an attempt to stabilize its operations and prevent further loss of assets. CenDyne is no longer shipping products and is not servicing warranties or honoring rebates.
