WinZip launches WinZip 11.0 to provide users, especially digital photography pros, with its latest compression utility release to save disk space and cut down on e-mail transmission time.
Corels WinZip Computing division announced on Nov. 15 a new release of WinZip, version 11.0, which features improved image handling through thumbnails and a new internal image viewer.
The new internal image viewer lets users navigate through multiple images within WinZip instead of having to open up a separate application for each image.
"WinZip 11.0 demonstrates that the usefulness of this trusted utility extends well beyond basic zipping and unzipping," said Edwin Siebesma, president of WinZip, in a company statement.
The Pro version of version 11.0 features improvements to the WinZip Job Wizard, which lets users arrange the utility to e-mail a status confirmation and the resulting Zip file automatically after completion.
It also allows users to find a specific folder on an FTP server and select custom jobs from the wizard, as well as the use of "Quick Pick" menus provided by WinZips 11.0 new browse option.
WinZip 11.0 also has a new "best compression" feature that allows users to choose the best compression option for them and then WinZip will decide what compression structure to use, depending on what kind of file it is.
Other features of the WinZip 11.0 include the ability for users to open BZ2 and RAR files as well as a special lossless compression method that reduces the size of WAV music files.
