Dell says combining its server and storage solutions with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 will help customers run large scale data centers and data warehouses more effectively.
Dell is pitching a combination of its server and storage offerings and the newly released
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 as an answer to data center and data warehouse management challenges.
Dell is touting support for SQL Server 2008 R2 on its complete
line of 64-bit PowerEdge servers as well as PowerVault, EqualLogic and
Dell/EMC storage solutions as a way to increase scalability for
large application workloads. The support for SQL Server 2008 R2
can also help improve datacenter virtualization and
consolidation implementations and enhance the ability of IT departments to manage the organization's database infrastructure, according to Dell.
"This announcement is significant for Dell's customers because it
represents a major performance and management breakthrough for database
infrastructures," said Sally Stevens, vice president of Dell's Product
Group Platform Marketing, in a statement. "Dell is in a unique position
to offer the right mix of products and services to help businesses
assess, plan and deploy Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and capture the
benefits of the latest technology."
SQL Server 2008 R2 hit the streets recently with a number of
enhancements centered on scalability and data management. Dell services
are also providing support for both Dell hardware and
SQL Server 2008 R2, according to the company.
"By providing a single point of contact, customers can reduce the
risk, costs and time associated with assessing, designing,
implementing, and managing SQL Server 2008 R2 all while increasing the
performance, quality and reliability of their database environment,"
the company said in a release.
