HP's new 8000 Elite Business Desktop PC is designed to bring enterprise-class security and manageability into an affordable business desktop. The new system also features Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system and Intel's Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad chips, high-end memory capabilities and greater energy-efficiency features.
Hewlett-Packard is looking to bring enterprise-class PC manageability and security features into a more affordable system.
HP on Dec. 1 unveiled the Compaq 8000 Elite Business Desktop PC,
which offers a long lifecycle, high-end security features, enhanced
power efficiency, and technologies from the likes of Intel and
Microsoft, including the Windows 7 operating system
"HP is making enterprise-grade technology and energy-efficient PCs
more affordable for customers who want energy-saving features as well
as improved security and manageability," Alan Reed, vice president and
general manager of business desktops for HP's Personal Systems Group.
"Our reliable and long-lifecycle desktop PCs ensure a strong foundation
for our customers' businesses."
The longer lifecycle gives users greater ability to plan for the
future, according to HP officials. The desktop includes Intel's Stable
Image Platform Program, which guarantees processor availability for at
least 15 months and sends notifications that alert businesses to
changes to the system or images up to 60 days in advance. The 800 Elite
Business Desktop comes with Intel's Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad chips,
which also features its vPro virtualization technology.
The security features include Drive Encryption for HP
ProtectTools, which encodes data on the hard drive, making it
unreadable is an unauthorized person looks at it. In addition, HP's
ProtectTools Security software suite includes embedded security
features, such as a single sign-on and authentication, restrictive
read/write capabilities and file remover.
Power savings come from HP's use of highly efficient power supplies
and the vendor's Power Assistant v2.0 feature, which brings together
disparate power settings into a single tool, enabling businesses to
more easily monitor the PC's energy settings and usage.
The system can expand to up to three, 1 terabyte hard drives,
includes DDR3 memory and offers an optional 64GB solid state drive.
The 8000 Elite Business Desktop is available immediately, starting at $799.
