Desktops and Notebooks: Nokia, ATandT Offering the Booklet 3G for $299 and in Time for Holiday Shopping

By Michelle Maisto on 2009-10-13

On Oct. 13, Nokia officially introduced the Booklet 3G, its entry into the PC arena. The Booklet 3G will be available mid-November, exclusively at Best Buy retail stores for the duration of the holiday season (afterward, it’ll likely be available elsewhere). With a two-year service contract from AT&T, the Booklet 3G will be available for $299. Without the AT&T service, Best Buy is selling it for $599. The Booklet boasts always-on connectivity, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and an impressive 12 hours of battery life.

The Booklet 3G comes in black, ice or azure; features a 10.1-inch glass display; and weighs in at only 2.76 pounds.

The Booklet 3G offers all-day connectivity. Nokia execs encourage users to charge the device, head to the office and leave the charger behind. Features include Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity—via AT&T—as well as Bluetooth and A-GPS.

Through the holiday season, the Booklet 3G will be available exclusively at Best Buy, which offers a free "Walk Out Working" service that helps customers activate their device, set up the OS and become familiarized with features, such as Nokia’s Ovi Suite.

The U.S. is one of the first markets the Booklet 3G will launch in, and Nokia expects to sell 20 million of them before the end of the year. The head of the production team described the Booklet as having an "aluminum super chassis."

Nokia created a single jack for headphone and microphone use. There’s an HDMI port for high-definition video out, and two USB ports.

An SD slot and a firewire port are included, along with a built-in 1.3-megapixel Webcam and microphone.

The keyboard on the Booklet 3G is not quite full-size.
