Readers respond to the eWEEK article, "Microsoft Shuts Windows on New PC Firmware."

I read John G. Spooners article on UEFI ("Microsoft Shuts Windows on New PC Firmware," March 20) with great interest because my future as a computer user is already harnessed to this emerging firmware standard. I wasnt terribly surprised to see yet another item dropped from the list of Vista technologies and implementations. … I was, however, surprised by the quote attributed to Intels Mike Richmond: "Nobody is going to build a system that just boots [using] EFI for a long time." The basis of the surprise is that Apple is already building several such systems, and, to top it off, it is using Intel chips to do it.
