With the release of the first alpha of Opera 10, the alternative browser showcases a new browser engine and improved standards support.

When first installing the alpha of Opera 10, the browser attempts to highlight new features such as the new Presto 2.2 browsing engine.

The alpha of Opera 10 can successfully complete the Web Standards Project's advanced Acid3 browsing standards test.

With the alpha of version 10, Opera joins competing browsers such as Firefox that have the ability to do inline spell-checks.

In the e-mail client of Opera 10 alpha, users can choose on a per e-mail basis whether they want to use HTML formatting or plain text.

While much of the core functionality of Opera 10 alpha remains the same as the current version, the browser does appear to have a cleaner and more "chrome-like" interface.
