BEA is founded by Bill Coleman, Ed Scott and Alfred Chuang--all of whom left Sun Microsystems to start the company by acquiring Information Management and Independence Technologies. The latter company resold the Tuxedo online transaction processing system, which was owned by Novell and originally developed by AT&T. Coleman, Scott and Chuang lent their first names to create the BEA moniker.
