IBM Tools Transform Legacy Apps

Along the lines of new Web services initiatives, IBM Global Services introduced an Enterprise Modernization Initiative to provide new tools for developers to transform legacy applications into Web services. IGS will also introduce two new services for customers. The new IBM software comes out of the WebSphere application server space and will help developers bridge the gap between old and new applications. The first tool, WebSphere Studio Enterprise Developer Version 5, is focused on mainframe development and supports CICS, as well as Java, COBOL, PL/1 and other languages, the company said.
IBM also announced WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries Version 5. The product is aimed at helping iSeries developers build enterprise e-business applications without requiring intense Java or Web services skills. The visual tool features wizards and templates to simplify development, the company said.
