Version 3.1 of IDS Scheer's ARIS Process Performance Manager is geared toward bridging the gap between corporate strategy and actual implementations.

Miami—At its ProcessWorld 2004 business process management conference here this week, IDS Scheer North America is working to dispel the myths around business process management for its attendees— many of whom have more questions than answers when it comes to process management optimization. Berwyn, Pa.-based IDS Scheer on Monday outlined new functionality in version 3.1 of its ARIS Process Performance Manager to a packed house. The company also announced an expanded relationship with SAP AG that will net new ARIS Toolset reference models for SAP Composite Applications. At the same time, IDS highlighted an expanded relationship with Intalio Inc., which provides the execution engine that enables process blueprints created using ARIS, and a new relationship with BPM provider Fuego Inc.
Version 3.1 of the ARIS PPM, a process controlling tool that helps companies measure and enhance their core processes, is geared toward bridging the gap between corporate strategy and actual implementations, according to Dr. Mathias Kirchmer, president and CEO of IDS North America. New features include Corporate Performance Management for long-term process optimization and Business Activity Monitoring that helps with the distribution of performance indicators of processes.
A new Customizing Toolkit in 3.1 has automated checks for system customization. Through its expanded relationship with SAP, of Walldorf, Germany, IDS Scheer will provide Composite, or xApps, reference models within its ARIS Toolset. The reference model inclusions should help to speed up the business process design and modeling phase of xApps implementations, officials said. SAP and other industry leaders have formed the BPM Standards Group. The reference models will help describe the processes supported within an xApp by providing a methodology as well as tools to design and document processes. Separately, under the terms of IDS Scheers agreement with Fuego, of Plano, Texas, the latter company will integrate the ARIS Toolset into the FuegoBPM process automation software. Integrating the two environments will enable Fuego to automatically import process models created in ARIS, and then run the models on its namesake Orchestration Engine. The expanded relationship with Intalio will amount to the further integration of the ARIS modeling toolset with the Intalio/n3 Business Process Management System. The tighter coupling will bring better adherence to BPM standards like BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation) and BPEL (Business Process Execution Language), and help users better integrate process models. "We have made it much easier for ARIS Process Platform customers to connect together process models with the Intalio/n3 Designer, bind them to third-party systems and Web services, and then deploy them onto the Intalio/n3 server," said Ismael Ghalimi, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Intalio, in San Mateo, Calif., in a statement.
