One can make the argument that SharePoint is one of the most successful Microsoft products of the last decade: It has become a very popular choice for businesses looking for a platform for managing content and documents; adding group collaboration and project management capabilities; and even building rich, interactive Websites. SharePoint 2007 has begun to show its age, but, with the beta release of SharePoint 2010, it looks like the Microsoft Web platform will join the modern age, adding increased social networking capabilities, rich Web development options and better standards support (including support for non-Internet Explorer browsers). SharePoint 2010 also takes into account the scope of the tasks businesses have adapted SharePoint for, and it does a better job of addressing enterprise content management needs.
