Enterprise Applications: Oracle Reveals Sourcing On Demand


Oracle on March 9 announced the release of Oracle Sourcing On Demand, a software-as-a-service solution designed to make the enterprises supply-chain management more efficient and cost-effective. Based on Oracle Sourcing and Oracle Sourcing Optimization, both a part of Oracles E-Business Suite Release 12, the software is priced at $850 per user/month, with an initial startup fee of $5,000.
According to Oracle, its new software will generate these efficiencies and cost-savings in a variety of ways, not the least of which is allowing possibly cash-strapped companies to keep the number of procurement specialists on staff relatively low. At its heart, Oracle Sourcing On Demand will allow those specialists from across an organization to collaborate on how to achieve lowest cost in materials and services acquisition.

The software will also monitor agreements and sourcing events to ensure successful completion.

  • Oracle Sourcing On Demand provides user output in a number of ways, including RFIs (request for information) or RFQs (request for quotation). It can also initiate a reverse auction.
  • Users interface with Oracle Sourcing On Demand via a digital "workbench." Project data can come not only from users inputting information directly into the system, but also from spreadsheets, purchase requisitions from a backend system, and other sources.
  • Oracle asserts that Sourcing On Demand is a cost-effective solution, given that users only need a browser to use the service, saving them the upfront costs of adding additional servers or hardware. The software comes with self-paced, online training and a dedicated help desk.
  • The software integrates with other procurement applications such as Oracle Purchasing. It also monitors whether agreements have been implemented and sourcing events completed.
