Target To Launch Its RFID Program In Texas
Speaking to several hundred of its suppliers in Minneapolis, Target said it would begin RFID testing at one Texas distribution center and 10 stories in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. The half-day meeting, near Targets Minneapolis headquarters, was called so the retailer could discuss the project with its suppliers and spell out requirements for its RFID plan. Along with the RFID tags, 96-bit tags based on EPCglobal standards along with an EPCglobal logo, all current markings and bar codes, and EDI ship notice manifests will still be required on all shipments, the company said. Its not clear how many suppliers will participate at the beginning of the project but factors like the suppliers size and whether they offer unique items probably will be factors in the decision.
