TextML provides a simple way to search existing XML-formatted documents for specific values or text strings. It works well as a Web-based search engine but isnt sophisticated enough to act as a general-purpose database.

SHORT-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // TextML provides a quick way to impose structure onto a large collection of documents.

LONG-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // By using XML to organize disparate text data, TextML provides a path to simpler and more effective document management systems.

PROS: Flexible and simple query syntax; low cost; full programming API.

CONS: No way to update parts of an XML document; provides only COM interfaces; no relational database connectivity; input data must be in XML format.
