The move is designed to make it easier for department-level customers to adopt the technology, Vignette officials said. The new Standard Edition will start at a six-processor license and will not include several V6 features such as integrated search, prebuilt multisite support and foreign language support. It will also have fewer out-of-the-box reporting capabilities. But the price, starting at $200,000, is about half what the Enterprise Editionand what V6 todaytypically costs. Enterprise Edition will start at a 14-processor license.
"Were targeting customers who need a very simple solution to meet the needs of a particular task," said Santi Pierini, vice president of product strategy at Vignette, in Austin, Texas.
