Wal-Mart Accessories Supplier Expects ROI on RFID in the Long Term
Tandy Brands Accessories wasn’t part of the 100 suppliers Wal-Mart called on to use RFID tags, but the company has started using them voluntarily in its Wal-Mart shipments. Tandy, which makes belts, leather goods, hand bags, socks and gifts, said it will cost between $150,000 and $200,000 a year to tag shipments for Wal-Mart. Overall, the company spends about $3 million yearly in technology investments. "In the long term, it will be worth the investment," said Britt Jenkins, president and CEO of Tandy. "The hope is that one day the efficiencies that come from using the technology will increase the retailers sales as well as ours."
