A new data center at Syracuse University was built from the ground up with energy use in mind. When it becomes fully operational this month it is expected to use about 50 percent less energy than a typical facility in operation today, making it one of the greenest data centers in the world. And going forward, the center will serve as a test bed to prove out new energy-saving technologies. Known as the "Green Data Center or GDC," the center came about through a joint partnership between the university, IBM, and the state of New York. Smarter Technology reporter Ashley Daley gives you an up close look at the GDC in this engaging video.
