Germany wants all 72 million citizens eligible for health care to have a health card containing a microchip carrying the patients information by 2006. The card can include medical history and are expected to replace handwritten prescriptions. Similar cards for the European Union are set to be out by 2008. Some health professionals feel the countries will not meet their deadlines.
