10G Ethernet Vendor Neterion Launches Reseller Program

The program aims to expand Neterion's reach among users. It will allow the company to address different customer markets through OEMs and the partner channel, the company says.

Neterion, which makes 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters, is rolling out a partner program designed to expand its reach among users. The Cupertino, Calif., company also said that an adapter that connects to servers via PCI-Express, dubbed Xframe E, currently is being tested by OEMs, and that another product, called the Xframe II/h, is designed for servers with smaller chassis, such as Sun Microsystems Sun Fire systems running on Advanced Micro Devices Opteron processor. Tracy Crowe, director of market development, channels and alliances, said the Professional Partners Program allows Neterion to address different customer markets from two directions: focusing on the OEMs with its direct sales force, and the users via the partner channel and OEMs.
"Were not interested in selling direct," Crowe said. "Were attacking the broader market through the channel."
The company already has agreements with several resellers around the world. Features of the partner program, which launched Tuesday, include a portal, starter kits, sales material, support programs and product presentations. Crowe said it was important to get the channel program in place as adoption of 10GE starts to grow. Neterion expects the market to grow to about $1 billion by 2010. Neterion offers a range of products, including the Xframe, which launched in October 2003, and Xframe II, which supports PCI-X. In addition, Neterion has rolled out the Xframe II CX-4, which offers copper connectivity. According to Neterion, OEM testing of Xframe E shows seven times greater throughput and 50 percent lower latency over 1GE. It will be generally available later this year, Crowe said.
