A pair of systems makers are rolling out new 4U (7-inch) servers designed to provide users with high performance and flexibility.

SuperMicro this week will unveil the SuperServer 7043M-8, a two-way system that can come in a rack-mount or tower configuration and is powered by Intels 3.2GHz Xeon chip, with 1MB of cache and 12GB of memory. Pricing starts at $944.

At LinuxWorld last week, Appro International demonstrated the Appro 4145H powered by up to four 64-bit Opteron chips from AMD. The server, available next month, is targeted at high-performance computing users to handle such tasks as graphics simulations and digital content creation. The 4145H can run the Linux or Windows operating system.
