Intel, HP, AMD, Other IT Vendors Continue to Give Haiti Aid
The IT industry is continuing to raise money and offer expertise in the wake of the massive earthquake that devastated Haiti. Intel, AMD, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems and Dell are among the IT companies giving money, matching employee contributions, offering ways for others to donate to relief efforts and looking for ways that technology can be used to help the situation on the island nation.Intel says more than 2,000 employees have donated to relief efforts to help the victims of the massive Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. According to a post on Intel's Website Jan. 18, the Intel Foundation is donating $250,000 and matching employee donations "up to $2,000 per employee."
In addition, researchers with Intel's IT group, using such events as the tsunami that struck South Asia in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina, which hit New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast in 2005, are looking at ways technology and technical expertise can be used to help the situation in Haiti.
