Intel Ships 3GHz Pentium 4

Intel Corp. has begun shipping the latest Pentium 4 chip, which had been delayed last week after engineers found an anomaly in it. Intel spokesman George Alfs said Monday that the company has sent a software update to OEMs and motherboard makers to correct the problem found in the 3GHz Pentium 4 chip.
Alfs declined to say exactly when the chip started shipping, only that it was "very recently." The new Pentium 4—which was to ship April 14 with the Santa Clara, Calif., chip makers 875P chip set and support a new 800MHz front-side bus—was delayed after engineers running the processor through tests found that a small number were sending incorrect data to the rest of the system, he said. The software update will correct that problem, Alfs said. Intel has been shipping a 3.06GHz Pentium 4 with a 533 front-side bus since November. Latest Intel News:
