Executive Summary: Odyssey 1.1

Funks updated Odyssey Server provides an end-to-end 802.1x security platform for locking down WLAN topologies. Although the number of supported access points and wireless clients is limited, sites looking for an inexpensive WLAN security product should consider Odyssey.

Cost Analysis

The Odyssey Server license costs $2,500 and comes with 25 client licenses. Additional client licenses can be purchased for $50 apiece. Sites without a public-key infrastructure in place should be aware of the extra cost needed to purchase server certificates from certificate authorities.

(+) Strong end-to-end WLAN security platform based on the 802.1x standard; easy to manage once properly deployed; inexpensive.

(-) Supports only Windows-based clients; setting up server certificates can be complex; lacks granular user/group-level access control.
