Does a tech job in New York sound attractive? Better check the numbers.

  • Average IT salary: Rose 4.74 percent to $80,006 between 2005 and 2006, the third highest in the nation. Source: Dice.com
  • New York Regions IT Job Postings: 11,046 in August 2007; postings grew 22 percent between December 2006 and April 2007. Source: Dice.com
  • IT Unemployment: Hovers around 4 percent. Source: Dice.com
  • Hiring Outlook: 15 percent of New York area CIOs said they planned to make new IT hires in Q2 2007. Source: Robert Half Technologys IT Hiring Index
  • New York States Total Tech Payroll: $23.1 billion, the third highest in the nation. Source: AeA Cyberstates 2007 Report
  • New York States Job Market Health: Net loss of 800 jobs, one-quarter of one percent of the states tech industry workforce, in 2005. The largest job losses were in the telecommunications services sector, down 3,500 jobs in 2005. On the positive side, New York saw growth in several sectors including computer design and related services (+1,700 jobs), R&D and testing labs (+900 jobs), and defense electronics manufacturing (+600 jobs).
