WebBox 1000

UVNetworks WebBox 1000 is an easy-to-use Web server appliance thats powered by Solaris and uses Sun hardware. Its worth a look for security-conscious hosting sites, although Wintel-based systems can provide better performance.

SHORT-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // Even though it runs on Solaris, the WebBox 1000 can be up and running quickly right out of the box, requiring little IT expertise during rollout.

LONG-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // The WebBox can scale up to 2GB of RAM, but its storage is limited, and it lacks expansion slots. IT managers will need to buy bigger hard drives or additional units to accommodate growth down the road.

PROS: Inexpensive; Solaris-based Web appliance is more secure than Wintel-based rivals; easy to set up and use.

CONS: Limited scalability; lacks hardware redundancy; lackluster performance.
