But the manufacturer recently discovered the value of traceability when a customer, Ford Motor Co., was putting together information about the crash reliability of the Ford Explorers front train rail.
The parts maker used CMSs Serial Tracker to promptly provide "full serial traceability [with] all materials specified," according to Hrasky. Enterprises can also use CMSs software to quickly find out "who made what, and where its at," according to Angle. Industry Directions Fraser cited the capability for real-time data acquisition as a key differentiator for CMS. "How real time is the update? [Thats] a big benefit. You dont typically find [real-time data acquisition] in [ERP/supply chain products], or if you do, [its only] through integration with a third party," the analyst said. The user interfaces between the iSeries and Windows editions of CMSs software are already quite similar.
