Retailers, for instance, used to be able to source their goods in the same town, state or country. In a global environment, there's additional pressures put on the business in terms of geography, time differences and the reliability of a supplier. Political or labor instability in a country could hurt sustainability. Toy maker Mattel learned a lesson when sources in China were delivering faulty products.
