As globalization becomes a part of every business, the issue of sourcing products or raw materials for products becomes an issue that must be confronted by IT managers. Retailers, for instance, used to be able to source their goods in the same town, state or country. In a global environment, there's additional pressures put on the business in terms of geography, time differences and the reliability of a supplier. Political or labor instability in a country could hurt sustainability. Toy maker Mattel learned a lesson when sources in China were delivering faulty products.
