Gibson: The new eWEEK will give you more news, more reviews and more views of what's important to you.

Some eWEEKs, a lot of things happen at once. In this issue, we launch a new format, and we feature our third annual eWEEK Excellence Awards. First, why change something that readers look forward to enthusiastically every week? You told us youd like eWEEK even more in magazine size, and we listened. The new eWEEK magazine will go where you go more conveniently, and it will give you more news, more reviews and more views of whats important to you.

One thing we wont change: There will be no letup in our efforts to bring you more and timelier news than any other IT weekly. A perfect example is Darryl Tafts story this week on the next version of J2SE, "Tiger."

You told us that reviews were more important than ever because, thanks to the tough economy, you have less staff to evaluate new products. In this weeks lead review, John Taschek takes a look at a worthy upgrade to Adobe Acrobat.

You told us that our access to industry executives is important, so were adding to our coverage of CEOs and CIOs. In addition to our eWEEK Interview, youll now find a shorter question-and-answer interview called Face to Face. In this weeks issue, we have two Face to Face discourses. The first, with American Airlines technology chief Monte Ford, is part of our Leading Edge report on American by Jeff Moad. In the second Face to Face, we sit down with Malcolm Collins, the president of Nortels Enterprise Networks division.

Our new look features an emphasis on opinion and commentary. Look near our award-winning editorials to find a new guest opinion column, Free Spectrum. This week, consultant David Andrews says the most successful IT projects are constrained by tight budgets and short deadlines. Really!

In our News section, Editor in Chief Eric Lundquist offers in his new column, Up Front, his unparalleled perspective on the industry. This week, his theme is our Excellence Awards, a program started by Eric three years ago. Perennial favorite Peter Coffees new column, Port Scans, is also in the News section.

Look for new columns in our Labs section, including John Tascheks Scaling IT, and Tech Directions, written alternately by Jim Rapoza and Tim Dyck. Also find there a Careers Commentary by Lisa Vaas, part of increased careers coverage. And dont worry, Spencer F. Katt isnt going anywhere—except to crisscross the nation each week in search of world-class rumors.
