IT automation up until now has been
an oxymoron. IT has been employed to automate business functions, but
IT itself has become labor-intensive and lacking in automation. The
reality is that IT has underinvested in automation, says Michel
Feaster, senior director of products for Hewlett-Packard's Business
Services Automation Unit, in this
IT Link podcast. IT has spent
money in digitizing manual processes and has turned paper processes
into software processes, and Feaster has some answers about why manual
approaches no longer scale in the enterprise, and what to do about it
in terms of consolidating data center functions through virtualization.
