SuSEs updated software is an easy-to-use Linux distribution based on the 2.4 kernel and KDE 2.0 desktop. ALthough it is an advance for Linux on the desktop, it would be a better fit on the server side at most organizations.

SHORT-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // The KDE 2.0 desktop and Yast2 features makes SuSE 7.1 Professional easy to install and use right out of the box - provided end users arent familiar with the Windows interface.

LONG-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // The 2.4 kernels support of SMP and 64GB of RAM might open doors for SuSE 7.1 Professional, but its desktop focus is at odds with Linuxs current server orientation.

Easy to use and administer; installation process is simpler than previous versions; supports more RAM and multiprocessors; extensive documentation; inexpensive.

No server utilities; desktop is very different from Windows, causing training and productivity issues if implemented on most corporate desktops.
