The first-ever coding contest focused on software from Microsofts Shared Source initiative kicked off May 23. The competition, sponsored by Microsoft and hosted by WindowsForDevices.com, challenges developers to use Windows CE Shared Source in a real-world project and offers Xbox
360 game console prizes.
Developers are invited to "create a cool, real-world project that
combines Windows CE along with either or both of two Shared Source
components—the Windows CE WebCam driver and/or the Windows CE DVR engine," the contests home page says. Entrants must submit
their projects for judging by midnight PDT on July 28, and winners
will be announced on WindowsForDevices.com after August 15.
Judges will award prizes based on factors such as originality,
real-world practicality, feature-extension of the Shared Source
components, project documentation, and a short video that demonstrates the successful operation of the project. The Grand Prize is a complete Xbox 360 dream setup consisting of the Xbox 360 console, a 34-inch HDTV, games and accessories, valued at approximately $2,500 ("Estimated Retail Value"). Three other winners will be awarded Xbox 360 game consoles.
