Mirapoints updated MD300 provides strong anti-virus protection as well as capable e-mail spam and content filtering in a reliable hardware appliance. Although rather pricey, the MD300 promises greater e-mail efficiency by offloading services from corporate mail servers. Sites with deep pockets eager for iron-clad e-mail protection will find this a solid gateway.

SHORT-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // Because of the complexity of LDAP integration, it can be time-consuming to integrate MD300 into a large e-mail system.

LONG-TERM BUSINESS IMPACT // Removing processor-intensive services from e-mail servers will allow them to accommodate more users per e-mail server, which means lower costs down the road.

Includes duplicate RAID-1 hard drives, fans and power supplies for added safety; provides solid virus protection; offloads processor-heavy services from mail servers.

Too many management consoles; content filtering is comparatively inflexible; expensive.
