Unified
networking solutions provider D-Link expanded its line of network switches with
the DGS-105 and DGS-108 Gigabit Ethernet and DES-105 and DES-108 Fast Ethernet
metal switches. Available in five- and eight-port form factors, these unmanaged
switches offer small to medium-size businesses (SMB) high-speed networking and
intelligent data streaming with quality of service (QoS) prioritization, and
leverage the company's green technology to save on power consumption.

reliability, and can be mounted on the desktop or walls via a built-in mount.
The DGS-105 and DGS-108 Gigabit Ethernet metal switches provide data transfer
speeds of up to 2,000M bps. The switches support IEEE 802.1p QoS, which
organizes and prioritizes time-sensitive and important data for efficient
delivery for streaming media, voice over IP (VoIP) calling and online
gaming.
The
switches are also 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet compliant and can detect
when a computer is shut down or when there is no Ethernet traffic,
automatically shutting down the port. The company said this could save up to 85
percent on power consumption.
D-Link's
DES-105 and DES-108 Fast Ethernet metal switches come with similar features.
The
DGS-105 ($55) and DGS-108 ($69) Gigabit Ethernet metal switches and DES-105
($30) and DES-108 ($45) Fast Ethernet metal switches are now shipping through
D-Link's network of channel partners, including value-added resellers, solution
providers and distributors.
"D-Link
understands that small and medium-sized businesses rely on easy-to-use network
technology that provides high-end features, reliability and performance without
breaking the bank," said Mark Prowten, director of product marketing for
business networking solutions at D-Link. "The DGS-105/108 and DES-105/108
unmanaged network switches are self-managed rugged switches, combining the
latest intelligent switch technology with cost-saving Energy Efficient Ethernet,
enabling businesses to work smarter [and] faster and be more productive."
In
September, the company launched the DAP-2565 AirPremier N Dual Band PoE Access
Point with Plenum-Rated Chassis powered by CloudCommand, designed for indoor
plenum deployment in above-ceiling airspace installations. The company also
unveiled the DSN-4000 Series xStack Storage iSCSI SAN Array, which supports
mixing nonproprietary SAS and SATA disk drives of various manufacturers,
capacities and speeds.
