Midmarket: Dell Vostro 3000 Laptops, Precision M4500 Workstation Target Different Users

By Michelle Maisto on 2010-03-10

Dell introduced new PCs on March 9 that target the extremes of the workforce spectrum. The Dell Vostro 3000 series of laptops offers small business customers new performance options that are secure, affordable and present a professional appearance to complement their brand images. On the other end, Dell also plans to update its T7500, T4400 and T3500 tower workstations with Intel Xeon 5600 processors. In addition, Dell introduced the 15.6-inch Precision M4500 Mobile Workstation, which combines Intel Core i7 technology with Nvidia Quadro FX 1800M graphics. There is also an option for a 64GB SSD MiniCard. The Vostro line is available in the United States as of March 9, while Precision M4500 is arriving later.

The 3300 includes an optical drive and, like the other 3000 models, offers an integrated Webcam, microphone and range of connectivity options, including 802.11 g/n wireless, Bluetooth and WWAN mobile broadband.

Vostro 3400

The 14-inch Vostro 3400, seen here, offers up to eight hours of battery life with the option of a 9-cell battery.

The 15-inch Vostro 3500, seen here, and the 17-inch 3700 offer the option of high-definition WLED screens. All models run Microsoft Windows 7, offer "set and forget" online data backup and come with the option of ProSupport, for 24/7 help with IT issues.

Vostro 3700

The "high-heel" on the 17-inch 3700 is an extended battery option. The 3700 can also be outfitted with an Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor. Pricing begins around $650 for the 3700 and under $600 for the three smaller models in the series.

Precision M4500

The 15.6-inch Dell Precision M4500 mobile workstation, called the world’s most powerful in its size, is a sibling to the 17-inch M6500. It’s available with an Intel Core i7-920XM Quad Core Extreme Edition processor or Core i7 or Core i5 processors, linked to 1,066MHz and 1,333MHz of memory. Other options include Nvidia Quadro FX 1800M or Quadro FX 880M graphics with 1GB of dedicated memory.

Precision M4500

The M4500 weighs 6 pounds, runs Windows 7 and offers an HD+ sRGB LED screen, a 3-megapixel webcam and Gobi 2.0 technology for just-about-anywhere mobile broadband support. Pricing, while unannounced, should be in the ballpark of the M6500.
