Midmarket: HP, Mitsubishi, Cisco Offer Up Tech for Holidays

Hewlett-Packard, Mitsubishi, Cisco Systems and a host of smaller companies recently converged at a holiday-themed event in New York City to show off some of their high-end tech products slated to roll out in coming months. Some of these items, such as the Mitsubishi Diamond 3D projector, are clearly aimed at the consumer segment, while others—in particular, HP's Palm Pre 2 and Cisco's Umi video conferencing platform—seem determined to walk the line between entertainment and practical. In any case, "mobility" seems to be the running theme of this year's holiday season. Tablets and smartphones, and apps for both those form factors, are a continuing interest of manufacturers big and small. While the big companies—HP, Samsung, Apple and Microsoft—battle it out over mobility hardware and software, many tinier outfits seem determined to profit off the accessories for those devices. Hence, eWEEK found products such as Plantonics' line of headsets, or even devices that will sanitize your smartphone after a long day of having it pressed to your ear.
