On March 2, Intel rolled out the latest version of its Classmate PC reference design. This convertible tablet PC is designed with a host of rugged features that ensure the laptop can make it through the school day in one piece. While Intel doesn't manufacture the Classmate itself, it does provide the design and the Atom processor for the laptop. In this case, the new Classmate uses the newer Intel Atom N450 chip. Finally, Intel is adding new features to the Classmate that can turn it into an e-reader as well as a laptop. Intel is in discussions with textbook publishers to bring new electronic materials into the Classmate software ecosystem.
