The platform features 64-bit hardware and software for maximum processing performance.
Disk-based data protection platform developer Sepaton unveiled its
next-generation platform, Version 6.0 software, which drives its new S2100-ES2
Series 1910/2910 system. The new platform is designed to deliver grid
scalability of performance and capacity, multiprotocol support,
high-reliability and deduplication. With performance of up to 1,500MB/sec/node,
the S2100 more than doubles the performance of previous models.
The platform features 64-bit hardware and software for maximum processing
performance as well as improved power efficiency, dynamic power management and
a more flexible 2U form factor. The upgrade was designed to allow customers to back
up, deduplicate and replicate data volumes more quickly; reduce backup windows;
meet restore SLAs and/or RPO/RTOs with enhanced scalability to help eliminate
system sprawl.
"Today's enterprises are faced with explosive data growth, increasing
complexity, limited budgets and risky technology transitions," said Mike
Worhach, president and CEO of Sepaton. "With
today's release of our new data protection platform, Sepaton provides a simple,
cost-effective way for enterprises to address today's critical business issues
and enable next-generation innovation."
For the first time, the S2100-ES2 platform supports Symantec NetBackup
OpenStorage (OST) on 10 Gigabit Ethernet concurrently with Fibre Channel tape
emulation, and the platform uses Hitachi Data Systems AMS
2100 disk arrays to deliver enhanced data availability and features a variety
of high-reliability enhancements, including automatic snapshots of the
DeltaStor database, a more streamlined software installation process, automatic
verification of software versions on all nodes, intelligent handling of full
storage pools and redundant links between nodes.
"Sepaton's laser-sharp focus on delivering data protection platforms
with enterprise-class capabilities such as massive grid scalability, storage
pooling that enables phased migration to new technologies and cloud enabling
multitenancy will be a key platform for enterprises to control the rising costs
of managing massive data volumes and exponential data growth," said Laura
Dubois, program vice president of IT research firm IDC.
The S2100-ES2 Series 1910/2910 with Version 6.0 software is shipping now.
Base pricing for the S2100-ES2 starts at $257,000. Within 90 days, Version 6.0
software will be available at no charge to existing Sepaton customers on
maintenance contracts with qualified hardware, according to a company release.
"By continually listening to its customers and prospects, Sepaton
consistently delivers products that lead the enterprise-class data protection
market," said David Cerniglia, president of Consiliant. "Once again
Sepaton is addressing the most important needs of large enterprises who face
spiraling data protection requirements-V6 is a massively scalable data
protection platform that delivers the highest throughput in the industry."
