Midmarket: Toshiba Tecra Tough Laptops Target Road Warriors, Small Businesses
For today's field workers and road warriors, having the right equipment is essential. Not only do they need something portable, compact and able to connect to the Web, they need hardware that can take a few knocks. Smartphone manufacturers are starting to take this more seriously, with Kevlar integration and Corning Gorilla Glass screens, but laptop makers have been reinforcing and toughening up their products for decades. The latest player to enter this market is Toshiba with the Tecra R940 and Tecra R950 laptops, which are built using a fiberglass-reinforced casing built around a honeycomb rib structureall packed into a frame that is only an inch thick and weighs just 5.3 pounds. Aside from the reinforced casing and rib structure, the notebooks, which come in a 14- and 15.6-inch screen model, also offer a spill-resistant keyboard, hard-drive impact sensor and a shock-absorbing design. That's one tough notebook.
