Mobile network operator Verizon Wireless is offering its customers a tool to
help them manage photos, videos and music between their wireless phones and
PCs.
V Cast Media Manager lets users move user-generated photos and videos from
their phones to their PCs using just the app and a USB
cable. Customers can also use Media Manager—which is powered by a customized
version of QuickLink Media Software from Smith Micro Software—to transfer
unprotected music from their PCs to another Media Manager-enabled handset.
Compatible phones include the LG enV Touch and the Samsung Alias and Alias
2. The company Website currently lists 19 phones that support the Media Manager
application, including one BlackBerry device, the Storm 9530 smartphone. Verizon
Wireless said more devices, including Google Android-powered phones, will be
added in the coming months.
Kyle Malady, vice president of product development at Verizon Wireless, said
consumers use their wireless phones more and more to capture photos and video
of important events and everyday moments, and the Media Manager will help them
preserve and share those memories. “This tool is the first step in giving our
customers the resources they need to make the most of the multimedia content
they create, acquire or store using their wireless devices,” he said.
For music, the Media Manager allows users to transfer songs and playlists
from their computer to their phones, rip and burn CDs, add to a collection by
browsing MP3s in the Verizon Wireless Media store, and import playlists from
other music management applications. Photo features include the ability to
touch up photos with editing tools, create photo albums and slideshows, and
e-mail pictures to family and friends.
“Smith Micro is pleased to be engaged with Verizon Wireless to deliver a
comprehensive, world-class multimedia software solution to power V Cast Media
