Access and security solutions specialist Zyxel rolls out its latest line of managed gigabit switches aimed at cost-conscious businesses, offering features such as port-based authentication.
Broadband networking, Internet connectivity and routing specialist
Zyxel Communications introduced the GS2200 series of switches, aimed at
small to medium-size businesses, as well as a limited lifetime warranty
for select products within its spectrum of managed switches and fiber
transceivers. The GS2200 series come in 24-port, Power over Ethernet
(PoE) and 48-port versions. Ranging in price from $679.99 to $1,349.99,
the switches are available through the company's authorized resellers
and e-commerce partners.
The GS2200-24P, with support for PoE provides the flexibility to deploy
Voice over Internet (VOIP) Phones, surveillance cameras and Wireless
Access Points (WAPs) anywhere a CAT5 data cable can reach, the company
noted. The non-blocking design of the switches deliver simultaneous,
full wire-speed, low-latency throughput to all ports. Four dual
personality slots (GE RJ-45/SFP open slots) also provide flexibility
with either fiber or CAT5 connectivity for long loop reach
applications. In addition, all ports support N-way auto negotiation and
MDI/MDI-X crossover.
Security features include IEEE 802.1x port-based authentication to help
ensure only authorized users can access the network, and Access Control
List (ACL) to provide a higher level of security for specific traffic
and applications. VLAN support for network segmentation and security
allows users to set up network groups to enhance security and use the
network resources more efficiently, a company release stated.
Secure management is available through Secure Sockets Layer (SSLv2) for
the Web GUI and Secure Shell (SSH) for command-line interface sessions.
It also supports Zyxel iStacking technology, allowing up to 24 switches
to be managed by one IP. These switches also have an industry-standard
Command Line Interface (CLI).
"Zyxel's GS2200 series offers SMBs a full-featured managed switch
perfect for today's -- and tomorrow's -- heavier Internet-based
content, like video, voice and graphics," said Dana Patrick, director
of North American channels for Zyxel. "We're also pleased to provide
our North America Channel partners with Zyxel's Limited Lifetime
Warranty, adding even more value to our extensive range of managed
switches and fiber transceivers."
In June, the company introduced the N4100, the industry's first 802.11n
hotspot gateway integrated with a four-port switch. It is designed as
an access controller for service providers or hotspot operators to
quickly deploy high-speed Internet access service for guests. The N4100
was the next generation upgrade to Zyxel's current top selling 11g
hospitality gateway - the G4100.
